With the expansion of the mobile network and the broadband network with fibre to the home (FTTH), the demands on the central offices are also increasing: Operational reliability must be guaranteed in the event of power failures and efficiency must meet today's requirements.
As part of a pilot project, cablex has equipped Swisscom control centres with photovoltaic systems in recent months. As the control centres had different structural requirements, the installation and type of expansion also varied according to the customer's needs for the respective infrastructure on site.
The first Swisscom central office to be presented as part of the pilot project is located in Steffisburg. It is a building with a flat roof, which also offers the opportunity to attach the photovoltaic modules to the façade. The energy generated in this centre is consumed immediately. For this reason, a battery storage unit was not installed.
