Efficient optical fibre connection: This is how the technical inspection is carried out.

Before optical fibre can be rolled out, precise site acquisition is required. In Münchenbuchsee, we accompany technician Kurt during the technical inspection of a property and show which decisive steps are necessary to prepare the optical fibre expansion for smooth implementation.

Site acquisition for optical fibre expansion.

Connection to the optical fibre network requires careful planning. A key step is the site acquisition process, which involves checking whether and how a property can be connected to the network.

Prozess Standortakquise

The site acquisition follows a clear process: Firstly, the owners of the properties concerned are identified. An appointment is then made for the technical inspection on site. During this inspection, relevant data is recorded and the feasibility of the connection is checked. The Site Acquisition Report is then created, which serves as the basis for decisions on expansion. Following a successful review, a contract is concluded with the owner of the property in question.

The most important steps in the technical inspection of a property.

We accompanied Kurt Hächler, an experienced cablex technician, during the technical inspection of a property in Münchenbuchsee.

Step 1: Preparation.

Kurt is allocated certain properties for site acquisition. He opens the SAR app on his tablet, which provides him with all the relevant information about a property:

  • Owner data
  • Existing connection points
  • Necessary technical tests

Kurt can instantly derive important information from the initial data in the app, which will later help him with the technical inspection of the property.

Step 2: Make an appointment.

Kurt contacts the owner and arranges an appointment for the technical inspection on site.

Step 3: On-site inspection.

On site, he explains the site acquisition process to the owner and documents the conditions of the property directly in the SAR app. For example, photos of house connections or potential obstacles are taken.

Kurt can use the SAR app to determine precisely which structural measures are required:

  • Are there any existing shafts or pipes?
  • Where is the best place to lay the optical fibre cable?
  • Are there obstacles such as walls?

All collected data is entered into the app in a structured manner and automatically transferred to the system so that it is available to the entire Acquisition Team in real time.

Step 4: Completion of the technical inspection and handover to the back office.

After the technical inspection, Kurt saves his data and completes the process in the app. He then discusses the next steps with the owner and informs them that a contract for the optical fibre connection will soon be sent for signing. The costs for the optical fibre expansion are borne by Swisscom. Thanks to real-time synchronisation, the back office can immediately process the data in the app, create the contract and send it directly – without any delays or duplicate work steps.

This is how the technical inspection is carried out.

After the on-site inspection by the technician, the optical fibre connection is usually completed within six to twelve months. The exact date will be determined by Swisscom. You can view the current status of the network expansion in your commune via the following link:
