In the context of optical fibre expansion, site acquisition involves checking the feasibility of installing an optical fibre connection in a given location. The client Swisscom informs cablex of the areas that are to be connected with optical fibre in future.
Site acquisition involves several steps: First, the property owners in a municipality are identified. An appointment is then arranged with them for a technical inspection on site. The next step is to prepare the Site Acquisition Report for the property. A contract is concluded following the inspection. The data is then sent to the Engineering team, and afterwards the optical fibre expansion can begin.
The new Site Acquisition Report app.
The SAR app was developed jointly by cablex, Swisscom and ServiceNow, and simplifies the entire acquisition process. It offers an innovative solution to accelerate and digitalise optical fibre expansion.
The SAR app is a big step towards digitalisation at cablex. It is a robust and stable app, equipped with functions that simplifies the daily work of our technicians on site and our employees in the office. At the same time, the owners also benefit.
Roger Mambu Vua, Project Manager SAR app
The SAR app was first used by WRO (Wireline Rollout) for its rollout projects. In future, the WCO (Wireline Construction), WRL (Wireless) and IBS (Infrastructure & Business Solutions) departments will also be integrated in order to account for the full spectrum of application areas and acquisition types.
Lettershop is a central component of the SAR app. This pilot project was tested for the first time in Inwil (LU). Automated documents such as advance information letters or contracts for owners are sent directly from the app to our Lettershop partner, who takes care of printing and dispatching the letters.
The pilot project in Inwil has shown how efficient the integration of Lettershop is. It allows cablex to increase its focus on core tasks – optical fibre planning and expansion. Step by step, this solution is now being extended to other regions.
Lettershop is an important milestone in the digitalisation and optimisation of rollout processes. Thanks to automated procedures, back office staff gain valuable time, enabling them to deal with our customers' concerns individually and comprehensively. The next step will focus on connection to a modern scanning centre, which will mean that incoming documents can also be recorded in an entirely digital process in future. This will create a fully digital process chain – one that is efficient, transparent and future proof.
Peter Hänggeli, Head of Engineering Wireline Rollout
Both our colleagues and the external suppliers involved in the this project contributed to its success with a great deal of motivation and commitment. Together, we have consistently and constructively searched for solutions to successfully realise the Lettershop project in an efficient way.
Martin Beer, Head of Lettershop Project
The introduction of the SAR app marks a significant step forward in the digitalisation of the optical fibre rollout. It simplifies site acquisition, optimises processes, and enables seamless collaboration between all parties involved. With forward-looking functions such as the automated Lettershop process, cablex is creating an entirely digital process chain.
In the coming months, the SAR app will be continuously developed to open up additional areas of application. In this way, cablex is sending out a clear signal in favour of efficiency, transparency and proximity to clients – today and in the future.
