Assisted reality is a technology that integrates digital information into the real world in a similar way to augmented reality (AR). The main difference between the two technologies is that, in assisted reality, digital support is mainly used to assist users with certain tasks or activities, rather than augmenting the environment with additional digital elements such as graphics or information.
For all current assisted reality projects, cablex is working with Almer Technologies AG, a company that has developed special glasses for technical applications. With "Almer Arc", technical experts who are not on site can provide technicians with information and instructions during installation work. With the help of Almer Arc, the technical expert sees exactly the same thing on the screen as the technician at the installation site. The advantages are clear: On the one hand, performance and productivity on site are increased; on the other hand, activities can be carried out that are not part of the cablex technical team's daily work. Of course, the technical team must have the necessary technical expertise. Assisted reality provides support for new tasks that are not commonplace for users.
With Almer Arc, colleagues can be instructed remotely over a long distance. This means we can carry out work without someone having to be trained for a long time beforehand.
Sebastian Beetschen, CEO Almer Technologies AG
The pilot project was carried out in collaboration with ECCO2 Solutions AG and was completed successfully. Since the beginning of the year, cablex technicians have been putting numerous networked interfaces (so-called gateways) into operation with the help of Almer glasses. The collaboration with ECCO2 shows that the intelligent heating control solutions can be professionally installed by cablex.
The collaboration with cablex arose from the growing need to install our heating optimisation solution throughout Switzerland. The expertise that cablex offers is an asset for us and our customers. The glasses have made it possible to improve this collaboration in terms of both time and precision during the technical interactions carried out by our remote support team. With cablex, we're reducing CO2 emissions a little more every day.
Eric Terrapon, Energy Engineer ECCO2 Solutions AG
Together with Almer Technologies AG, cablex is currently in the process of developing further areas of application that appear suitable for cablex. Almer Arc can be used in a variety of ways: from troubleshooting, quality and safety checks on construction sites, through to network maintenance or instructions. In future, we will use the glasses where they offer added value for employees or customers.
