Greenfield 16-9

We were at Switzerland's biggest rock and metal festival.

This year's Greenfield Festival attracted around 84,000 visitors to Interlaken with top acts like Green Day, Bring Me the Horizon and The Prodigy. While the fans enjoyed the music and the special atmosphere, it was worth taking a look behind the scenes, where everything was being done to ensure a stable and reliable network connection.

We're at Switzerland's biggest rock and metal festival.

Week-long setup before the festival.

Around one week before the start of the three-day event, cablex began setting up the network. The task was to provide the entire band production, artists, catering and crew with a stable and powerful internet connection.

For this, the technical team built and installed a complex network of fibre optic cables, high-performance switches and numerous access points, in addition to which, two directional radio links were installed to provide the huge site with reliable WLAN. The network was not intended for the general public, but was designed specifically for production teams, artists and catering providers.

Swisscom Broadcast, a specialist in the field of media and events, contracted cablex to handle the network tasks, and the two firms joined forces to build and operate the network together.

I am proud that cablex and Swisscom Broadcast are once again able to set up and operate the network for this great rock and metal festival this year. The cablex technical team and we, as media and events specialists, are the perfect team.

Stable connections for a smooth experience.

For the organisers and the artists, this network delivered seamless communications and fast data transfers. During the festival, a member of the cablex technical team was always on hand to take immediate action if there was a fault and ensure continuity of operations. This ensured that the Greenfield Festival ran smoothly, not only musically but also in terms of its organisation, and the network functioned seamlessly throughout the three days of the festival this year.

Looking ahead to the next festival.

As soon as one festival ends, it's time to look to the next one: Many of the installed network facilities will remain in place for the upcoming Trucker Festival, which will take place in Interlaken from 28 to 30 June 2024.

Swisscom Broadcast and cablex have demonstrated that a great festival experience is not only about the performance on stage, but also about a solid technical basis behind the scenes. While the fans enjoy the music, the teams ensure that everything runs smoothly in the background.
