Approximately 3000 customers of various telecommunication service providers in Wolfenschiessen, Grafenort and Engelberg were affected. The fixed network and Internet connections as well as some of the mobile network were down.
Plucky 24-h effort.
Our team on site was able to locate the fault quickly, although the damage was not directly visible from the outside. As the cable route was destroyed during the construction work, it was decided to decommission the cables that had been destroyed and lay new cables temporarily above the ground. The overall re-installation work will take place at a later date when the damaged cable route has been repaired.
As with any major incident assignment, work priorities were quickly established and four splicer teams and one copper cable team were able to work on the copper and optical fibre cables at the same time. Three optical fibre cables with a total of 452 fibres were repaired and three new copper cables with 120 lines were relaid. Overall, the teams spliced 240 copper and 904 optical fibres.
Back online.
Our teams worked around the clock, and by around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, most customers had been reconnected to the grid. Friday morning, 15 July 2022, at around 8:30 a.m., all of the repair work had been finished. A big thank you to everyone who successfully mastered this major incident with a lot of heart and soul as well as commitment.
Sven Bächler, Team Leader Customer Field Services Central, supervised the major deployment as part of the management team, and has nothing but positive words for the efforts of all cablex colleagues:
For me, it was once again outstanding to see how much heart and soul everyone involved put into their work on site. From start to finish, together and hand in hand for the common cause.
