We don't just talk about it ...

We don't just talk about it, we actually work for social inclusion. The Solvita Foundation in Urdorf produces cable connections for cablex that are used for smart meters. We visited the social institution and were impressed by the employees’ fascination in making the cable connections.

Solvita Foundation – a touching institution.

Solvita Foundation – the perfect partner.

"I think the work is super-cool". This is the feedback from Joshua Miggiano. He works at Solvita, where he produces RS-485 cable connections for cablex. These are used in smart meters, where they ensure mutual communication between the meters and transmit data. Smart meters are intelligent electricity meters that not only measure electricity but also signal when and how much electricity is being consumed. In this way, the end customer can also check the consumption.

Producing cable connections takes time and their storage requires space. For this reason, this work is no longer carried out on site by cablex employees but is outsourced to the Solvita Foundation. The smart meters can be put into operation as quickly as possible, and power interruptions can be kept short.

Integration is right and important.

Social responsibility is a matter close to cablex's heart. By working together, we promote integration into the working world and make a social contribution by giving back to society.

"It is remarkable to see the enthusiasm with which the employees at the Solvita Foundation tackle their work. What we tend to perceive as monotonous work is exciting for the people with disabilities at the foundation every time", reports Michel Bucheli, overall project manager at cablex. He initiated the cooperation with the Solvita Foundation a few months ago.

Precision, endurance and a lot of fun.

Producing RS-485 cable connections requires precision and a certain instinctive feeling. In a first step, the cables are cut to size by machine, then dismantled and stripped correctly with a wire stripper. In the final step, the cables are then tied together in bundles of 20 cables each, packed and sent back to cablex. In the current year 2023, the Solvita Foundation will produce 4,500 RS-485 cable connections for cablex.

An institution with around 600 jobs.

The Solvita Foundation creates work and living places for people with mental, physical, psychological or multiple impairments. Around 160 people with disabilities work at the service centre in Urdorf. From creative tasks to work requiring fine motor skills – such as the production of cable connections for the smart meters – it’s all there in-house. With over 600 employees, the Solvita Foundation is one of the most important social institutions in Switzerland.

I would like to thank cablex for showing their appreciation with this order. I look forward to continuing our great collaboration.

Marcel Wiedmer, Head of Services and Service Centre, Solvita Foundation
