Facts about cablex.
On 5 August 2024, 16 German-speaking trainees started one of the following apprenticeships at cablex: Network Electrician with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET), Assembly Electrician with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET), Electrician with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET). The first three days were all about "onboarding". The young professionals got to know cablex as a company, familiarised themselves with our vision and values, and learned all about the mutual rights and obligations associated with an apprenticeship. Service devices and iPads were put into operation and set up correctly.
On the second day, CEO ad interim, Francesco Castelletti, welcomed our junior employees via Teams, gave them valuable tips for their training and answered their questions. It was probably the first time that many of the trainees had explored a Swisscom telephone exchange with all its elements in the Bollwerk in Bern. The highlight for everyone was the tour of the underground tunnel with its impressive cable harnesses beneath the station site.
Safety training.
All trainees have taken part in a two-day safety training course, which is mandatory for all apprenticeships in accordance with the training regulations. Our future professionals are exposed to many different risks and dangers when learning and practising their chosen profession. It is important to recognise these and to protect yourself and prevent injury with suitable working methods and/or safety equipment.
Finishing up with fun and games.
In addition to all the information learned and impressions gained by the trainees, there were also plenty of opportunities for fun and games and for making new friends. For example, the trainees in the social media team organised a cablex Olympics. Here the cablex trainees were able to demonstrate their talents in unusual disciplines: speed dressing, nail estimation, the human wrecking ball and tossing the glove.
With a slight time lag, two more Network Electricians (VET) started their training in French-speaking Switzerland and two in Ticino. And a trained Assembly Electrician with Swiss Federal Certificate of Proficiency (EFZ) began his two-year follow-up apprenticeship as an Electrician with Swiss Federal Certificate of Proficiency (EFZ). Due to the smaller number of trainees, the initial introduction to the company and the apprenticeship could be completed in a shorter time. However, there were no compromises when it came to occupational health and safety – all trainees completed the two days of practice-orientated safety training.
